False friends! Everybody's least favourite concept in language learning. As you may know, part of the reason I decided to learn Catalan was that it was similar to many languages I already know. And for that reason alone, it's made most of my studying a breeze. But to be fair, I'm only doing beginner level still. False friends (falsos amigos; falsos amics) always frustrate. But when so much is already so similar, these words seems to sting a little more. I found an interesting explainer on some false friends between Spanish and Catalan that can be found here. No matter how frustrating these words can be, they are just as equally interesting.
